Biosceptre's Intellectual Property ("IP") portfolio primarily consists of patents covering a novel cancer marker-target found on human and other mammalian cells, as well as associated diagnostic and therapeutic products targeting this novel marker-target.

The discovery resulted from research on the purinergic receptor P2X7, a major cellular receptor responsible for programmed cell death (apoptosis). Biosceptre identified a subtle structural change in the P2X7 receptor that makes it non-functional when expressed on the surface of cancer cells. The Company has produced a range of antibodies capable of specifically targeting this subtly changed receptor, which is expressed on cancer cells of most cancer types, but is absent in healthy tissue.

Biosceptre's IP strategy is to protect:

  • its findings around the subtly changed P2X7 receptor
  • applications of the novel marker-target in diagnostics, imaging and therapeutics

Biosceptre is constantly looking to strengthen its patent position in the major jurisdictions globally.
